Leaked Claude Code client source shows Anthropic collects extensive on-device user data and telemetry, syncs sessions to api.anthropic.com, retains data up to five years if opted into training (30 days default), and includes remote-update and feature-flag mechanisms. - The Register
Mostly embarrassing for Anthropic, probably no long-term damage. Well-funded competitors could reverse-engineer it with the help of AI, obfuscated node.js is not that intractable. I don’t see any real threat for end-users? 🤷
Given that creator Boris Cherny has said Claude Code itself writes all the Claude Code code, is 'constitutional AI' a secret open source advocate yearning to make its code free? Or is this just an example of the danger of moving too fast and breaking things at the speed of AI?
Just in the past week or or so there was a leak about how the next model is so great at security they have to be careful about releasing it, but if it's so great at security then why all the leaks? Also if Claude Code solved programming, then why are there Claude outages every week?
Anthropic already leaked the Claude Code source at the beginning of last year, it feels like there should be some pre-deployment checks and hard guardrails for this sort of thing? If they aren’t hardening the CI deployment pipeline, what else are they missing? feels sloppy.
